St. George, pray for us!

A Witness to Christ in the Face of Death

St. George holds a place of high honor in the Catholic Church, celebrated for his deep faith and remarkable bravery. He was born in Cappadocia (present-day Turkey) during the late 3rd century to devout Christian parents and later joined the Roman army, following in his father’s footsteps.

As tradition recounts, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian—who initiated a fierce persecution of Christians—George boldly declared his allegiance to Christ. He refused to abandon his beliefs, even under intense pressure. Enduring severe torture and imprisonment, he remained unwavering. His steadfastness ultimately led to his martyrdom by beheading around the year 303 A.D.
